I think I was 16 when Bompie gave me an earlier version of this little Gerber hatchet. It is small and light. Both features which can be detrimental to the usefulness of an axe, are what make this a great tool. It is small and light enough that I carried it when I would otherwise have not had an axe. In this function alone it is saved from a category of nearly worthless and moved it into one of invaluable. A fine piece of kit for shelter building, fire making, small game butchery, and other tasks.
